The problem it solves: Until now, the only way to take an employee out of a period’s regular run was to move them to an off-cycle run. If someone simply shouldn’t be paid this period — or will be settled later — creating an off-cycle was heavier than the task needed, and there was no clean, reversible way to correct who’s in the run.
What we built: A new Exclude from run option. When you exclude an employee from an open regular run, you now choose between New off-cycle run (as before) and Exclude from run. Excluding removes their results, report rows and payslips from the run, and run totals — headcount, net pay, employer contributions, total payroll cost — update straight away. A single Excluded view lists everyone taken out and how (excluded from run, or moved to an off-cycle with its reference and pay date). You can include an excluded employee — or anyone the run missed — back into an open run, and their pay calculates like any other. Excluded employees are never re-added automatically by unlocking, pending changes or new-joiner enrolment; only the Include action brings them back. Every exclude and include is logged with user, time, employee and payroll.
What this means for your team
Correct who’s paid, fast
take someone out of a period without the overhead of an off-cycle
Reversible by design
include people back while the run is open; nothing is a one-way mistake
No surprises
excluded employees stay out until you choose to add them back, and it’s all on the audit trail
How it works
Exclude an employee from an open run
Open a regular run in Open status and go to the Payroll tab. Select one or more employees, choose Exclude, then Exclude from run, and confirm — the confirmation shows the effect before you continue.
Bring them back while the run is open
Open the run, use the + next to the Included / Excluded switch, select the employee and choose Add to run — their pay calculates like any other.
